Practique for Server

This section describes known issues of the Practique for Server which were either known by the time respective version has been released or has been reported by the QA team or customers hitting issues during live scenarios. Each of the know issues is documented here with corresponding version numbers it is affecting.

Fixed Known Issues

KI-PRAC-4: Error when starting second session whilst first session is in progress

9th July 2018 > 5.4.0

Unhandled error when trying to start a second session whilst the first session is still in progress. This is undesired behaviour and has been fixed in 5.4.0.1 (release notes available here)

KI-PRAC-3: Error uploading CSV files from Windows

27th June 2018

There is an existing Microsoft problem, with Windows, in that Excel export to UTF-8 is broken. If you are using Excel on Windows, we would advise you should be importing into Practique using the xslx format.

KI-PRAC-2: Changing global observation criteria affects approved Items

13th March 2018, >= 5.0.0

If any criteria is added, removed or modified within the global observation criteria this is propagated to all Items and Exams throughout Practique, irrespective of whether they are in draft or have been approved. This means that it is possible to unintentionally change the criteria appearing on Exams you have already prepared and pushed.

The recommended workaround at present is to not make any changes to the global observation criteria.

KI-PRAC-1: Practique Server becomes overloaded during large OSCE exam

18th May 2017, >= 5.0.0 / fixed in 5.2.1

When Practique is used for large OSCE exams (70+ simultaneous examiners) there may be situation when Practique Server is overloaded with the traffic generated by the activity of Examiners. When Practique Server is overloaded Practique for iPad application is significantly impacted during startup, synchronisation and login due to the long delay it takes for Practique Server to respond to the application requests, please see Known Issues#KI-PRAC-IOS-7  for more details.

Practique Server will still be responding to the devices and it will be possible to access is and perform operations such as viewing sessions or start stop sessions however this will be significantly slower then normally.

There is no workaround for this issue and should you experience issues described above in high - non isolated - rate please contact support team.

Practique for Browser (P4B)

This section describes known issues of the Practique application which were either known by the time respective version has been released or has been reported by the QA team or customers hitting issues during live scenarios. Each of the know issues is documented here with corresponding version numbers it is affecting.

Current Known Issues

KI-PRAC-P4B-1: Unable to login due to SSL issue

3rd February 2020, all versions

On starting P4B the user is presented with a dialogue asking for a client certificate. There are three options, "Show Certificate", "Cancel" and "Continue". If "Continue" is chosen the user is presented with a "400 Bad Request" error.

This issue is only known to affect older Safari browsers, e.g. Safari 10.x

Workaround for this issue is to select "Cancel". To avoid seeing the issue it is recommend that browsers are kept as up to date as possible.

Practique for iPad

This section describes known issues of the Practique application which were either known by the time respective version has been released or has been reported by the QA team or customers hitting issues during live scenarios. Each of the know issues is documented here with corresponding version numbers it is affecting.

Current Known Issues

KI-PRAC-IOS-15: OSCE - Audio recordings are sometimes replaced by text

16th April 2020, all versions / to be fixed

In some circumstances audio recorded via the app can be replaced by text, causing the audio answer to be lost.

There is no workaround for this issue. It is best not to use audio recording in OSCE mark sheets at this time.

Fixed Known Issues

KI-PRAC-IOS-14: OSCE - Candidates are incorrectly shown as "Did Not Attend" on Marshal iPad

21st November 2019, >= 6.2.0 / fixed in 6.2.3

On the Examiner and Marshal iPad, a bug in the layout of the Candidate list (on Marshal in the Examiner list for a Round) causes random candidate names to be shown with strike-through markup, i.e. Did Not Attend (DNA), when they are attending. This only occurs where another candidate in the list is a DNA. The server data for the candidates is not affected by this, and results can be processed as normal.

There is no workaround for this issue.

KI-PRAC-IOS-13: OSCE - App crashes when using full-screen marksheet

18th September August 2019, >= 6.2.0 / fixed in 6.2.2

A bug in the layout of the full-screen marksheet causes the app to crash intermittently.

Workaround for this issue is to use the marksheet in split-screen mode - this needs to be set on the Practique server. Please raise a service desk ticket if you are experiencing this issue.

KI-PRAC-IOS-12: OSCE - Bypass rounds are not shown in the Examiner schedule

13th Dec 2018, >= 6.0.0 / fixed in 6.1.2

When an examiner does not have a candidate to mark in a round that round number is not shown in the schedule - it should be shown with the label "Bypass".

This will be fixed for the next release.

There is no workaround, the examiners need to be made aware that a break in the round sequence, e.g. they have a schedule with rounds 1, 2, 4, 5, is because round 3 is a bypass.

KI-PRAC-IOS-11: OSCE - The "red bar" on the exam list to warn that some marksheets have not received by the backend will be triggered by a candidate who was marked as "Did not attend"

13th Dec 2018, >= 6.1.0 / fixed in 6.1.2

Where a student is marked as "Did not attend" the app does not take this into account when checking if all marksheets have been submitted and confirmed. This will cause the session name to appear with a red background as if the backend is still waiting for a marksheet.

This will be fixed for the next release.

There is no workaround, marshals should be aware that when a candidate is marked as "Did not attend" the app will think their marksheet is missing. The backend needs to be checked to be certain that all marksheets have been received.

KI-PRAC-IOS-10: OSCE - Marksheet is blank and without resources

2nd Oct 2018, < 6.1.0 / not reported since 6.1.0

After selecting a candidate the marksheet screen appears but without any questions or resources. The submit button is blank.

We have not been able to reproduce this issue, but a number of changes related to exam syncing appear to have resolved it.

For app version 6.0 and greater, the workaround is to reset the exam data in the app. To do this, select "Administrator settings" under the application information menu - the in the bottom right-hand corner of the start screen. You may need to scroll down to see it. The password is the iPad admin password that you should have received when you first got your enrollment details. Please contact the Service Desk if you don't have this password. If there are no "Pending Messages" please select "Reset exam data". This will force the app to clear out the old local data storage and re-build itself from the backend. The app should work then.

For older app versions restarting the device, not just the Practique app, should clear the issue. If not, the app should be removed and re-installed.

KI-PRAC-IOS-9: Written - Question content may disappear, get obscured or is presented incomplete to the Candidate

2nd August 2017, >= 5.0.0 / won't fix. Written exams are no longer support in the iPad app. Practique for Browser (P4B) should be used instead

When there is larger number of questions in Written exam (regardless of the question types used) it may happen that some students may experience problems after using the application for longer period of time. This is especially valid for older devices such as iPad Mini 1G and similar which have limited hardware. Students may be presented with the question stem which presented as only one line while there should be more content displayed. It has also been observed that the number of questions are not presented to the student. This issue does not influence data collection or synchronisation which works as expected and is not affected.

Workaround for the issue is for a student to logout and login again and continue with the exam.

KI-PRAC-IOS-8: OSCE - Text feedback fields on the marksheet disappear or are obscured when rotating device

17th July 2017, < 6.0.0 / not reported since 6.0.0

When examiners are typing their feedback into one of the text fields on the marksheet there is a presentation issue when examiners rotate the device while keyboard is presented on screen. In this situation problems with presentation of the text fields may occur and when Examiners try to tap & type to the text field it may be obscured or presented in wrong location.

Workaround for this issue is to go back to the Candidate list screen and back to the marksheet.

KI-PRAC-IOS-7: Login problems for large OSCE exams when Practique Server becomes overloaded

18th May 2017, >= 5.0.3 / fixed in 5.0.4

When Practique is used for large OSCE exams (70+ simultaneous examiners) there may be situation when Practique Server is overloaded with the traffic generated by the activity of Examiners. When Practique Server is overloaded Practique for iPad application is significantly impacted during startup, synchronisation and login due to the long delay it takes for Practique Server to respond to the application requests.

iPad application will report errors such as "Unable to update list of exams", "Unable to login" or "Synchronisation timed out". Despite the fact that there are measures to retry each operation on the iPad when error occurs due to the Practique Server responding with the delay, there is high chance that the user will have to retry operations several times or even for several minutes until the operation is successful.

As this is Practique Server issue there is currently no direct workaround for the application. Should you experience issues described above in high - non isolated - rate please contact support team.

In order to retry operations you can either use provided Retry buttons on the screen or close Practique for iPad application completely (double-tap home button, swipe app up) and start it again.

KI-PRAC-IOS-6: Previous candidate marksheet switches to amended state unexpectedly while marking next candidate

2nd May 2017, >= 5.0.3 / fixed in 5.0.4

After marking a candidate and this going green on the candidate list, when you select the next candidate and return to the candidate list once finishing marking the previous candidate was highlighted orange and the marksheet has automatically go into amend marksheet. This issue is sporadic and depends on the OSCE size as well as the rate of activity of the Examiners marking for that particular exam.

This issue does not alter, corrupt marks or cause data loss, marks are collected at the time of the initial submission for previous candidate as well as submission for the 2nd candidate.

At the moment workaround is to instruct Examiners to select the Candidate (which became amended) and re-submit the marksheet without any changes.

KI-PRAC-IOS-5: Login/Logout information for an Examiner may be in accurate on the Marshall screen

24th April 2017, = 5.0.3, / fixed in 5.0.4

Under certain circumstances there may be a case where Examiner is indicated as logged out on the Marshall screen despite he is logged-in and the iPad is connected to WiFi and communicates with the server.

No known workaround for this issue at the moment. Examiner can continue marking and as long as marks are indicated at submitted on the Marshall screen there is no impact to the functionality.

KI-PRAC-IOS-4: Application is stuck with "Unable to update list of published exams from Practique server" message

21st April 2017, >= 5.0.0, <= 5.0.2 / fixed in 5.0.3

Practique application could get stuck while updating list of exams from Practique Server. This situation would be mostly affecting customers who run bigger, multiple concurrent exams (multi-site) with independent timing. This scenario produces volume and frequency of the data synchronisation which would impact updating exams from the server.

Application would eventually recover from this state on it's own without user action, however it may take several minutes. As workaround it is possible to close the application and retry the update process however should there be high volume of traffic application would get stuck again.

Easiest workaround is to provide spare iPad to the examiner and wait for the affected iPad to recover.

KI-PRAC-IOS-3: Examiner can't login with "You are already logged in on another iPad." message despite they just logged out

21st April 2017, >= 5.0.0, <= 5.0.2 / fixed in 5.0.3

Practique application may fail to send logout information to Practique Server when there is high volume of user activity (this can include submitting marks, logouts) due to synchronisation blocking information upload to Practique Server. Exams with 5+ examiners would be affected by this issue. As a result of this situation Examiners who just logged out and wish to login again would not be able to do so due to the fact that Practique Server still considers them logged in.

Workaround for this issue is to logout user via Practique Server. Navigate to your Dashboard and locate affected exam/session. Use View logins screen to access list of users for that session and Logout affected Examiner. Once this is done Examiner will be able to login again.

KI-PRAC-IOS-2: Examiner is unable to mark candidate with "Unable to create Result" message

21st April 2017, >= 4.2.1, <= 5.0.2 / fixed in 5.0.3

Practique application may display "Unable to create Result" pop up message to Examiner who tries to mark next candidate as shown on the screenshot on the right. This situation is caused by high synchronisation traffic and usually is triggered when round ends when some Examiners are submitting marks and others are already advancing to the next Candidate. This is mainly in situation when exam is bigger, multi circuit exam with slightly different timings.

Application is designed to recover from this without user interaction (except tapping OK on the alert box). However should the examiner have problems with advancing to the next Candidate it may be necessary to perform following actions:

  1. Amend marksheet for 1st candidate & submit it (nothing needs to be changed just re-submit)
  2. Logout Examiner and close the application (double tap on iPad home button, swipe up on Practique application) and re-login Examiner.

KI-PRAC-IOS-1: Marshall Start round / End round are stuck in disabled state

21st April 2017, >= 5.0.0 / fixed in 5.0.4

In cases where Wi-Fi network is intermittent or when there is a congestion or high volume of traffic Start/Stop round buttons on the Marshall screen may get stuck after tapping on them. This is due to the fact that the iPad has not been able to deliver the information about the user action to the server.

Workaround is to navigate back to the Circuit overview on the marshal iPad and back to the current round. When visiting current round screen buttons will be available again.
